Allison Long

About

My name is Allison, and visual communication has been my passion for more than 20 years. Initially through still photography and later videography, I have traveled the country and the world to capture the images to tell the stories of people.

I earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida. After graduation, I began my photojournalism career at The Biloxi (MS) Herald, where I was a staff photographer for one year. During that year, I covered the aftermath of Hurricane Georges on the Gulf Coast.

In 1999, I moved to Tallahassee, Fla., to work for The Tallahassee Democrat. There I photographed the Florida State University and Florida A&M University football teams, numerous hurricanes and the drama surrounding the 2000 presidential election.

I moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 2002 to join the staff of The Kansas City Star. During my time there, I covered the Kansas City Chiefs, two World Series, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Mississippi.

In 2019, I began a new journey. I returned home to Florida and now serve as a photographer and videographer for University of South Florida Health in Tampa, where I continue to tell stories that deeply affect people and bring about positive change.
