A rare hernia surgery gives USF alumna a second chance

USF Health alumna Karin Johnson underwent two emergency surgeries after being diagnosed with a life-threatening paraesophageal hernia. Dr. Christopher DuCoin, chief of the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at USF Health and chief of the Digestive Diseases Institute at Tampa General Hospital, performed the complex procedure that saved her life. Four months later, Karin and her husband Bob celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Yellowstone National Park with their children and grandchildren.
